Netflix is an American media service provider and production house. It was founded by Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph in the year 1997. Netflix provides subscription based streaming service allowing the user to stream films and television shows online. It also produces shows and movies in-house and makes them available on this platform. Hindi movies on Netflix, though less in number, are a major attraction for its Indian users.

Netflix is one of the most popular streaming services with over 148 million paid subscriptions around the world. Netflix launched in India in the year 2016. In a short span, Netflix has completely changed how Indian viewers consume content. It has lured a lot of viewers through its international, local as well as original content. It is specifically targeted at the youth. Netflix in Hindi has made many switch-over from DTH/Cable TV completely. With so many great titles under its belt, let’s take a look at the top 5 Hindi Movies on Netflix in 2020. These are the most popular titles on Netflix in Hindi based on IMDb ratings and our editorial research.

5. Bahubali: The Beginning and The Conclusion

Bahubali - One of the Most Popular Hindi Movies on Netflix

Bahubali is one of the most hyped movies in India. Even though it was made down South, its Hindi version also received immense love and appreciation. Dharma Productions distributed and marketed the Hindi version. The first part ended on a cliffhanger and people couldn’t stop talking about it. There were jokes, memes and the anticipation was at an all-time high. It was satiated only after the second installment of the series released two years later.

In the kingdom of Mahishmati, Shivudu learns about his family’s conflicted past and his legacy. He must now face his arch enemy and save his biological mother. At the time of its release, Bahubali 2 was the most expensive film. It also went on to become the highest grossing film in India and the third highest grossing Indian film worldwide at the time of its release. Bahubali shattered all box office records. It garnered a lot of critical acclaim and also received several accolades.

4. Article 15

Article 15

Article 15 is at number 4 of our review of the top Hindi movies on Netflix. It is a hard-hitting crime-drama film inspired by multiple real life incidents. An honorable police officer sets out to fight against violent caste-based crimes and discrimination. The title of the film is derived from the Article 15 of the Indian Constitution which prohibits discrimination on the basis of religion, race, caste, creed, sex or place of birth.

Article 15 received a lot of critical acclaim winning several awards in the critics-choice category. You will be on the edge of your seat owing to the direction, the dialogues, the screenplay, the cinematography and the acting.

3. Dangal

Dangal is one of the most memorable Hindi sports film. Starring Mr. Perfectionist, Mr. Aamir Khan himself, it is nothing short of perfection. Aamir Khan essays the role of a former wrestler who would stop at nothing to ensure a Gold medal in wrestling for his country. Unable to do so himself, he fights the existing social stigmas and trains his two daughters from a young age. Despite their initial reluctance, he prepares them for the Commonwealth Games.

What works for the film is the perfect amalgamation of emotions – fatherly love, determination, disappointment and pride. It portrays the dilemma of the protagonist wonderfully who essays dual roles in his daughters’ life – that of a father and a coach.  The film is loosely based on the Haryana based Phogat Family. The screenplay is top notch and the music and lyrics add their own charm to this sports drama.

Dangal became the highest grossing film of India in 2017 with a gross of 2000 crore.

2. Andhadhun

Andhadhun is a dark crime comedy thriller film. A piano player pretends to be visually impaired and gets entangled in a host of problems as he witnesses the murder of a former film actor. Packed with lies, deceit and back stabbing, this film is sure to have you waiting for more with bated breath. Stellar performances by Ayushman Khurrana and Tabu coupled with a solid screenplay and extraordinary direction make this film a must watch in our list.

The film received immense critical acclaim. It bagged multiple awards and also three of the most coveted National Awards. Music by Amit Trivedi is the cherry on top of this cake.

1. 3 Idiots

3 Idiots stars at the number 1 position of our top Hindi movies on Netflix in 2020. It is a coming off age comedy drama film based on Chetan Bhagat’s novel Five Point Someone. It is a satire about the pressures that surround the Indian Educational system. The film revolves around the lives of three engineering students from different backgrounds. It portrays their friendship and their personal challenges. 3 Idiots was released at the end of the year 2009, but is equally relevant now, ten years later.

Rajkumar Hirani’s direction and exceptional performances by the three protagonists, Aamir Khan, R Madhavan and Sharman Joshi have crowned it as a masterpiece. The film has immense youth appeal and a feel-good factor. You are sure to be smiling by the end of it. Rajkumar Hirani has struck a chord with the audience by delivering life lessons in a funny way.

The Film swept away maximum awards at the award functions that year and even won three National Awards. Being the first film to have a gross collection of 273.82 crore, it was the one to establish the 200 crore Club!

So, this was our list of top 5 Hindi Movies on Netflix. With so many exquisite movies being made in Indian Cinema, choosing the top 5 was an extremely challenging task.
