International Students’ Day is not about only celebrating students because they are the future of our country. It is more about the contribution they make to make their respective countries stand straight in from of the world.

The more powerful and strong the students are, the stronger a country becomes. Now the question arises, how do students contribute to the growth of a country? Well, it’s pretty simple. Contributing to the growth of the country is not always about making money and raising the economy.

The growth of a country means growth in all aspects. Starting from financial to cultural, growth in all aspects happens to decide the position of a country in this world.

For instance, if a country is financially strong, which means more jobs, more business, and more opportunities for other countries to invest in them, it will ultimately drive more international population.

People coming to a country from various parts of the world for job purposes are bound to experience the culture. Whenever a person gets exposed to a new culture and lives in that for a long time, some elements of the culture stay with them, which ultimately leads to the cultural growth of the country.

International Students’ Day: How do students promote this growth?

When we talk about students and growth, it somehow sounds contradictory. Because whenever we talk about a country’s development, we immediately think about money.

Yes, money is an integral part of a country’s future development, but recognition and development don’t always come with money.

We cannot deny the fact that there are certain countries more recognized and popular not because of the financial growth but because of the rich culture. India is also one of those countries.

Thousands of people with different religious backgrounds, lingual backgrounds, and even social backgrounds are living in the same country peacefully. It is the center point of attraction to the foreign crowd.

Students are the most prominent medium of spreading their cultural values to other countries. But how do they actually do it? Have you ever heard about students studying abroad? You’ve done it thousands of times, isn’t it?

Yes! This is how they do it. Students from various countries bring their culture abroad when they go to study overseas, and their educational, and cultural performance ultimately enhances the performance of their respective countries. So that’s what  International Students Day celebrates.

History of International Student’s Day Celebration

Though the celebrations of International Students Day look very happy and lavish, the history behind it is not so happy. Most of the special day celebrations we have are based on some heart-wrecking sacrifices, and International Students Day is no exception.

The story takes us back to the time of World War II. In 1939, the students of the Univerisity of Prague were protesting against Czechoslovakia’s German Occupation and also the death of Jan Opletal, who was a medical student at the same University. Jan was shot to death.

To stop this protest, Nazis killed 9 student leaders and took 1,200 students to concentration camps.

At present, in the memory of those courageous students and the sacrifice they had made, each year on 17th November, International Students’ Day is celebrated.

Students

How is International Student’s Day Celebrated?

Celebration of this day varies from country to country. But more or less, the motive is the same. In most countries, universities organize certain seminars or conferences, bringing students from various countries and cultural backgrounds to come together and celebrating their versatility.

Moreover, Students are also asked to promote any of their cultural specialties. It can be clothes, food, anything. The motive behind this is to make the students vulnerable to various cultures that are poles apart. It will not only enable them to experience the greater world but also make them tolerant towards other cultures and differences.

Though it sounds very fascinating when we think about students studying abroad, there are also some not too good things about it. Students from various countries leave their family, friends, and home to come and study abroad so that they can make their dreams come true.

They often feel homesick, unable to fit in, discriminated and many more, which might demotivate them and deviate them from their goals.

That’s why encouraging them and teaching them the lesson to be tolerant of every culture in this world is very important. It will not only make them feel less homesick but also slowly make their personality more diverse.

Conclusion

International Students’ Day needs more public awareness. It is not only necessary for students who are studying abroad but for those too who are studying in their countries. No matter what culture students inherit, making them open to other forms and styles of living and looking at life is very important.

Learning the lesson to adapt is crucial to enable them to fight against any kind of rigidity in their minds on in their countries. Because a changed and developed mind and change a thousand more.

It will not only change the people around them but the countries they live in, ultimately making them grow and shine.
