At first, the Gacy brood was an ordinary next-door family with a simple and beautiful life. However, the world of his wife and two grown children came crashing when John’s real face was out in the world.

The Deranged Past of John Wayne Gacy
“Criminals are made, not born,” and it is absolutely true in John’s case. Now, deceased serial killer John Wayne was a simple boy who grew up with adorable sisters, but the atrocities of his father made him a distressed soul.
A Netflix crime documentary titled, Conversations with a Killer: The John Wayne Gacy Tapes revealed all the gruesome details about his numerous killings of young men. His sick mentality was never innate; in fact, his unjust childhood conditioned his mind to kill.
Born and brewed in violence, John was very tortured and physically abused by his father through a razor strap. Additionally, he bottled the biggest secret of his life that he liked men to refrain from getting trolled.
However, what’s even more disgusting is that in order to let out his repressed, he tried to have sex with dead bodies in a mortuary. Gross right? He began working as a mortuary assistant in Las Vegas; he lay with a young boy’s corpse.
Apart from leading this disgusting life, John continued striving for his “normal living.” He not only went to Northwestern Business College to pursue his education but also met his first wife, Marlynn Myers.
What Happened After Marriage?
Just after 9 months after the first meeting, John married the beautiful Marlynn. Later like any normal couple, they became parents of Michael in 1966. A year later, Christine Gacy was born.
The initial years were “perfect,” as the future killer said. Karen, in an interview with Oprah, shared that their pejorative and browbeat father had also changed his attitude.
However, it was too late for John, as he was scarred forever, and there was no coming back for him. Soon, when his little daughter, Christine Gacy, was just one-year-old, John was arrested for indulging in buggery.
To the family’s surprise, it didn’t stop there, as the secret of his double life was about to come to light.
Furthermore, two teenage boys accused him of sexual misconduct, and John was sentenced to a decade of jail time at Iowa’s Anamosa State Penitentiary.
Unbearable to his wife, Marlynn, she filed for a divorce and complete custody of her two children. However, her basis of separation was “cruel and inhuman treatment,” and not the sexual assault allegations.
What Happened After Divorce?
Even after the divorce, his ex-wife believed that he was not a homosexual and was, in fact, really good with his kids. Speaking of his kids, Michael and Christine Gacy never looked back to their father and lived a life without his presence.
By 1972, John had been living a life with two faces. In the morning, he was a normal contractor and had a side gig as the city’s “Pogo the Clown.” Also, he gave love a second chance and remarried a mother of two, Carole Hoff.
However, his misdeeds destroyed his second marriage, and it did not last for a long time. For seven years straight, John had become an obstreperous killer in the night.
Queerly, he was the dressed clown in the morning and would kill and rape innocent men at night. That’s not all; as horrifying as it sounds, this terrifying American serial killer buried a total of 33 bodies under his house.
Totally fair to call his abode “a house of horrors,” making it a bloody dumping ground for his gruesome killings.
His notorious killings included alluring innocent strangers for work opportunities, assaulting them, torturing them, strangling them, and finally killing them. All these years, the house smelled dank, his sister, Karen, told Oprah.
How was he caught?
The smell didn’t disclose his identity; in fact, it was the missing teenager, 15-year-old Robert Piest, who made the police suspicious.
Once the police were inside John’s dreadful house, it was about time that all the murders came to the surface.
Finally, the no-more-accused, John, pled guilty to all the horrific 33 murders and was sentenced to the death penalty. Not so remorseful serial killer was executed with a lethal injection on May 10, 1994.
Although the injection closed the chapter ‘John,’ but left behind family members like his children had to conceal their identities.
Where is Christine Gacy?
His younger child, who was born in the year 1967, is currently 55 years old. It is believed that Christine has currently moved on and is happily married, living a normal life.
Karen mentioned in the interview with Oprah that she had left his killer father’s legacy and surname too. Already all the left-behind family members were shadowed in a negative light; the kids decided to lift away the ‘Gacy-cast’ and lead a life away from the spotlight.
Probably his kids have changed the name to leave behind the killer-father tag forever. Moreover, they did not make an appearance in the Netflix documentary based on the killer’s life.
The Bottom Line
Usually, we see that a star kid is automatically associated with luxury, privilege, and glitter. In contrast, if a family has a serial killer, unfortunately, the cynical cast on the entire family.
The way you are looked up to in society is never going to be the same, as you will always be a killer’s family member. It was fair for John’s innocent daughter Christine Gacy to hide away and give life an upright chance.
