Early Life
Born in Bene Israel family as Salome Aron in November 1951. Sam Aron and Ruby Aron were her parents who were professional dancers. She has one sibling named Edwin Aron. They were even the first-ever certified ballroom dancers of India. Samba- a Brazilian dance form was introduced by both of them in India.
Salome Aron got married to an ex-army officer Kumud Roy Kapoor and became Salome Roy Kapur. They both met in a club in Kashmir where Kumud was posted.
Career
Salome Roy Kapur started her career in dancing at the age of 5. She has been learning Indian classical and Western since her childhood. In 1968, she started her modeling career with her brother. At the age of 12, she appeared in a Cadbury advertisement with her brother. After that, she acted in an Apsara Sarees advertisement.
Salome was a successful model who flaunted her ramp walk in many shows. Her walk was unique as sometimes she used to show her dancing skills on the ramp.
In 1971, she won a beauty contest in Spain then in 1972, she became Miss India. She has done modeling for brands like ITC Wills, Godrej, Tata, Cadbury, Century Mills, Calico, TBZ, Taj Mahal Tea and other textile companies.
In 1965, she made her acting debut with the film Tu Hi Meri Zindagi. She has also worked in movies like Ek Bechara and Black. After doing some movies, she decided to become a choreographer rather than an actress.
Salome is famous for choreographing the dance item Main Shayar To Nahi from the movie Bobby (1973). She even choreographed the dance for Sarah Aroeste’s song Bailamos- a Judaeo-Spanish musician based in Manhattan. She was the director of GD Somani Memorial School and in this school, her children also studied.
Salome has her dance academy and she conducts dance and grooming classes in several schools. In her workshops, she talks about eating posture, habits, personality, the importance of yoga and exercise, etiquette, voice modulation, and many other important things.
Personal Life
Her eldest son Siddharth Roy Kapur has married actress Vidya Balan; he was the CEO of UTV Motion Pictures. Currently, he is the chairman and managing director of Roy Kapur Films and the president of India’s Producers Guild.
Kunal Roy Kapur is a well-known film actor and producer, he started his career in 2001 in acting with the TV show Just Mohabbat. Later he made his directorial debut with The President is Coming.
