Car starts and then dies

So you are facing issues when your car starts and then dies immediately? You’ve come to the right place looking for solutions. In this article, we will look at the reasons why your car behaves that way. This will further help you to fix this problem of the car starts then stalls in an easy manner.

If you notice your surroundings, you will find that you are surrounded by some marvelous inventions that have become an important part of life. In our daily life, we use but don’t think much about the importance of these inventions we are surrounded by. One such amazing invention is the car. If you own a car then you can’t even think of spending one week without this machine of yours, because it seems quite difficult.

If you take a look at the total number of cars used in the whole world, the figure is astonishing and is still growing at a steady pace. Cars are no doubt of great help but what if you start your car starts and shuts off immediately? What if your car turns over then dies? Well, it is never easy to tell the correct reason behind why the car starts then shuts off. It requires a lot of checks, which ultimately makes the repair even more difficult.

Let’s dive into an in-depth analysis of why my car starts but then dies immediately without further ado:

Cause 1: Fuel Pump leak

Leakage in the fuel tank is one of the most common causes related to a car. Over a long time of usage, the components of your car weaken. This might give rise to the risk of fuel leakage from your car’s tank. Moreover, the leakage of fuel creates a problem for the whole process of the internal combustion. And it would be dangerous to drive your car when its fuel is leaking.

And hence, in order to get started, your car needs a proper amount of fuel and air to get mixed. However, when the leakage problem occurs, it doesn’t let the mentioned process to happen. In this case, your car’s engine might start without any problem but it can’t keep running. As a result, the engine dies immediately.

Solution

  1. First of all, do not drive a car with fuel leakage. This is because driving a car with fuel leakage can be dangerous, and hence, try fixing the issue before taking your car for a drive.
  2. There are rubbers lines, which if damaged can be changed easily. And hence, before going through the repair, don’t forget to use gauntlets. Moreover, the right size of the rubber tube helps in the prevention of any further damage from happening.
  3. If your car has a steel fuel line, it is better but to bother yourself in the repair. The steel fuel line is not easy to repair and demand experience and time, and hence, it’s better to hire a mechanic. They know exactly how to deal with such kind of issues.

Cause 2: Ignition issue due to water in the fuel tank

There can be many reasons that can cause ignition issues in the engine. However, the most common issues involve water, ice or build-up in the Gas Tank. When water or ice goes into the gas tank, it creates a problem for combustion to take place, which further makes the car stall every time you try to turn it on.

Other than that, this ignition issue takes place when you haven’t started your car for months, due to which the water, alcohol, and gas separate from the formula and this is called the “Separation phase“. Luckily, this is not that tough to detect and repair. All you need to do is to take care of a few simple things.

Solution:

  1. If you are sure that water is the reason behind your car’s problem, the first thing you should do is to drain the tank. Yes, doing this would help in the prevention of any further damage to the engine.
  2. Try to prevent your car from going into the “Separation phase.” And to do the same, ensure not letting your car stand in the garage ideal for over a month. In the case, if you don’t have the time to take your car out you can simply turn on your car and let the engine start turned on for a few minutes.
  3. You can use water removing fuel additive, such as HEET, this will help you get rid of any trace of water inside the tank.

Cause 3: Clogged or old fuel filter

If your fuel filter is doing its job well then there is no doubt that you need to change it. It is a cylindrically shaped component that is placed near the fuel line. Moreover, the filter cleans gasoline and it is in this process that it gets filled with impurities that clog it. And hence, changing it over a period of time is recommended.

Stalling is common for cars that have clogged fuel filter. However, you should keep changing the Filter according to your needs. Some people change to change it after 40,000 kilometers, while for some individuals this distance is 10,000 kilometers.

Solution

  1. Always remember the last time you changed the filter so that you can keep a track of filter’s health. If you can’t remember you should check it after a regular interval of time.
  2. You can also find a small transparent window in the filter through which you can see how dirty it is, depending on which you should change the filter.
  3. The simplest way to check a clogged filter is to check the pressure. If the pressure is not right, most probably it is due to a clogged filter.

In the end, above-discussed were some of the most common issues that can cause your car to stall. We also discussed how you can fix these issues depending upon what caused them. Moreover, solving this problem is not much difficult as you got to know. Also, try to keep yourself updated with the condition of your car so that you don’t have to go through all the hassle of repairing.
