Who is Sambit Patra?
Sambit Patra was born in Bokaro, Bihar, which is now a part of Jharkhand state. He took birth to an Odia family in December 1974. His father, Rabindra Nath Patra, was a resident of Bokaro Steel City in Bihar’s Dhanbad district.
Sambit’s father was a worker in the Bokaro Steel Plant, just like most of the other adults in Bihar at that time. He completed his elementary education locally at the Chinmaya Vidyalaya.
Today, he is the spokesperson for one of India’s largest political parties- the Bhartiya Janta Party. He appears on multiple TV channels, conferences, and shows, where he talks about India and politics. He is also a member of the BJP and fought for the Lok Sabha elections of 2019 from Puri, which he lost, unfortunately.
The Latest Controversy
Just like the whole BJP and any of its members, Sambit Patra has been seen talking against Love Jihad a lot. It is the practice when a Muslim man marries a Hindu girl and then asks her to convert her religion.
At multiple TV shows and on live news too, Sambhit Patra has talked against Love Jihad and shown his support for the bill that is being passed in multiple states to oppose it. However, he was surrounded by controversy recently when someone claimed that his own daughter ran away with a Muslim boy whom she loved.
Many other speculations were made about Sambit Patra’s wife, daughter, and life. So what is the actual truth behind this controversy?
Who are Sambit Patra’s Wife and Daughter?
Actually, Sambit Patra does not have any daughters. In fact, Sambit Patra does not have a wife, too, because he is unmarried! Apparently, he devoted his life to the nation and its care, and he did not care to get married and have a family. This means that all the allegations and controversy were fake, probably propaganda by his opposition.
Career and Life of Sambit Patra
Did you know that Sambit Patra is a certified doctor? In 1997, he completed his MBBS from Odisha’s Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research. After that, he pursued an MS (Master of Surgery) in General Surgery from Cuttack’s Utkal University in 2002.
He even cleared the UPSC Combines Medical Services exam in 2003 and later joined the Hindurav Hospital as the post of Medical Officer. This tells us that he is a very learned man who has qualified for multiple exams and acquired many degrees.
Despite all the knowledge he attained, Patra prefers speaking in pure Hindi wherever he goes. He is proficient in English as well, but he speaks Hindi at conferences, speeches, news channels, etc., wherever possible.
In 2010, he began his political career by joining the Bharatiya Janta Party. Initially, he became the spokesperson of the Delhi unit of the BJP. He even stood for municipal elections from the Kashmiri Gate region. While he lost the elections, he decided to become a full-time politician and, thus, left his job to pursue politics.
In the Lok Sabha elections of 2014, Sambit Patra was one of the most active campaigners of the BJP. Consequently, he gained visibility on television as well. Considering his talent for speech, his command of the language, and his invaluable knowledge, BJP decided to make him its National Spokesperson.
In 2017, he also contested the Lok Sabha elections from the Puri constituency in Odisha. He lost to a member of the Biju Janta Dal– a local party in Odisha- by a 1% margin.
Other Controversies Surrounding His Career and Life
When a person enters and stays in politics, controversies are inevitable. Similar is the case with Sambit Patra. Apart from the recent controversy regarding Sambit Patra’s wife and daughter, he has been a part of multiple other controversies.
In the year 2017, he was appointed as the Non-Official Director (NOD) of ONGC (Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd). His appointment was for a term of three years. However, looking at his post as the official spokesperson of the BJP, this appointment was viewed as a violation of the Companies act.
Consequently, a petition was filed by Energy Watchdogs (NGO) in the Delhi High Court, challenging the appointment. The case was taken to the Supreme Court, where a bench was set to further investigate the matter.
Later in 2020, Patra uploaded a fake video on Twitter. In the video, an ex-MLA of the Indian National Congress is seen chanting, “Pakistan Zindabad.” Naseem Khan, the person shown in the video, claimed it was fake and charged a police complaint against Sambit Patra in Mumbai.
Again on May 18, 2022, he shared a video on Twitter regarding the opposition’s propaganda against the current Prime Minister to hinder his work during the Covid pandemic. This media was flagged as inappropriate and manipulative by Twitter, probably because of a complaint filed against him for spreading misinformation.
During his job as a medical officer, too, he has a complaint under consideration against him for alleged negligence in taking care of a patient after an operation. The case has been filed and is currently under the supervision of the Delhi Medical Council.
In another incident, on August 12, 2020, Patra was on a TV debate with Rajiv Tyagi. After the debate was over, Tyagi suffered a heart attack and was declared dead. Regarding this, the Congress party alleged that the modern debating methods and aggressive debating by Patra were the reason for Tyagi’s death. People also started calling him a murderer.
Final Words
The life of Sambit Patra has been controversial, and many of these allegations even might be true. But the allegations regarding Sambit Patra’s wife and his daughter’s Love Jihad have no basis because he is an unmarried man. Even in his nomination filing for the elections, the section of “spouse” has been left “NIL.”
